living & learning — .:That thing that you do, after your day job, in….

“.:That thing that you do, after your day job, in your free time, too early in the morning, too late at night. That thing you read about, write about, think about, in fact fantasize about. That thing you do when you’re all alone and there’s no one to impress, nothing to prove, no money to be made, simply a passion to pursue. That’s it. That’s your thing. That’s your heart, your guide. That’s the thing you must, must do:.”

On a summer morning
take the walking stick,
your worries will go away
like fog disappears.

Cheery blueness of the sky
smiles in your heart
surrounded by God’s faithfulness
with his loving umbrella.

All around you only flowers, new shoots
and heavy stalks,
it is as love walks besides
you on the road.

It all sounds so much like home
in your father’s house,
and above the larks song
your soul is ascending.

Theodor Fontane

An einem Sommermorgen
da nimm den Wanderstab,
es fallen deine Sorgen
wie Nebel von dir ab.

Des Himmels heitre Bläue
lacht dir ins Herz hinein
und schließt, wie Gottes Treue,
mit seinem Dach dich ein.

Rings Blüten nur und Triebe
und Halme von Segen schwer,
dir ist, als zöge die Liebe
des Weges nebenher.

So heimisch alles klingt
als wie im Vaterhaus,
und über die Lerchen schwingt
die Seele sich hinaus.

Theodor Fontane

mindfulness…………gratitude

Zen Flash

“If you truly get in touch with a piece of carrot, you get in touch with the soil, the rain, the sunshine. You get in touch with Mother Earth and eating in such a way, you feel in touch with true life, your roots, and that is meditation. If we chew every morsel of our food in that way we become grateful and when you are grateful, you are happy.” — Thich Nhat Hanh

Accepting change…….

Zen Flash

Where there is beauty, there is ugliness.

When something is right, something else is wrong.
Knowledge and ignorance depend on each other.
It has been like this since the beginning.
How could it be otherwise now?
Wanting to toss out one and hold onto the other
makes for a ridiculous comedy.
You must still deal with everything ever-changing,
even when you say it’s wonderful.

Don’t wish to become a future Buddha;
Your only concern should be,
As thought follows thought,
To avoid clinging to any of them.

sad……

lilies, sparrows and grass

When Truth and I behold each other,
my heart pulsates to the tempo of the soft-
spoken mist of rain that tiptoes
after the last bellow of the drunken
thunder has been silenced —
I forget this leavened flesh,
I am no longer

a tree walking
in my tannin espadrilles,
the alabaster egrets carry
my gesturing branches
across the turquoise oceans —
I am left with my eyes

sown in the meadow of the galaxies,
primordial  light-years turn  transparent
corneal sheaths
into the sun’s corona —

the brilliance is beyond diamonds.

HEAVENLY BAKES

Denim and Gray

A ballerina-turned-baker was the star of a previous post here.  Today, I’d like to show you a few creations by another artist who ventured into the world of confectionery. Heather Baird used to paint and work in galleries for painters, sculptors, glass blowers, textile artists and other artisans as a career. Now she creates art in the form of “desserts that are as artful as they are delicious.” The best part: Heather shares her passion for making beautiful, delectable sweets by posting free recipes and decorating ideas on her blog SprinkleBakes. That’s certainly more than just a sprinkling of love, don’t you think?
